Growing up, Samuel Markel admired his father, a lifelong educator who made a profound impact on his students. His father’s passion for teaching and the stories he shared about transforming lives through education planted a seed in Samuel’s heart. For years, he kept the idea of teaching in the back of his mind, wondering if it could ever become more than a “what if.”
After exploring other career paths, Samuel decided it was time to follow in his father’s footsteps. He turned to iteach to help him transition into teaching, a decision he now describes as life-changing. The program’s flexibility and support gave him the tools he needed to dive into his first classroom with confidence.
Inspiring Students to Overcome Challenges
Today, Samuel teaches Math Intervention at Barry Goldwater High School in Phoenix, Arizona, where he works with freshmen who are overcoming significant challenges. His classroom is a safe space for students to believe in themselves, push through obstacles, and discover their potential. While the work isn’t easy, Samuel finds joy in the moments when his students grasp concepts they once thought were beyond their reach.
“Kids can smell if you’re the real deal,” Samuel explains. “When you show your kids you care about them and that they have a future, most respond.”
The Power of Genuine Care and Connection
In his role, Samuel brings hope and stability to his students, showing them that with effort and determination, they can achieve more than they ever imagined. His dedication to building trust and inspiring growth has made him a beloved educator and a natural leader in his school.
Samuel Markel’s journey is a testament to the power of believing in yourself and others. For his unwavering commitment to his students and his passion for teaching, we’re proud to honor him as iteach’s November Teacher of the Month.
