Laqualla Hart, St. John the Baptist Parish, December teacher of the month

December Teacher of the Month Laqualla Hart

Laqualla Hart wears many hats at her school. She sponsors the Beta, Hispanic, Drama, and Culture clubs. She also coaches girls’ sports.

It’s not just the students she serves—it’s also the teachers. Twice a week, she leads teacher collaboration before she heads to practice.

She’s a mentor teacher and teaches Pre-K and Kindergarten enrichment, as well as 6th and 7th grade social studies.

Luckily, her school sees just how dedicated Laqualla is. She was selected as her school’s Teacher of the Year.

“My decision to teach was influenced by a variety of factors, such as: my passion for helping others, my desire to make a positive impact on students, and my love for learning,” Laqualla said.

Laqualla teaches at Laplace Elementary School in St. John the Baptist Parish, Louisiana. She’s an iteach candidate this year, and she’s already an innovative teacher.

“I dare to be different in and out of the classroom, which connects my students on all levels. I make all lessons meaningful for all races, ages, and students.”

Recently, Laqualla led a philosophical chair debate. This teaching method allows students to learn healthy debate, think critically, and get up and move while learning. Laqualla said her students love debates, and she loves them to. Debates allow her students to lead her and each other for effective learning.

Student choice also features heavily in her classroom. She gave her students the freedom to choose their favorite topic of a recent unit and create a brochure, cube, poster, or project board.

“Students used annotations, extensive research, and pictures to complete it!!! They LOVED IT!!!”

Laqualla’s enthusiasm for teaching and love for her students was easy to see in her application. We were impressed with all she’s already accomplished. That’s why she is our first ever iteach Teacher of the Month.

It’s no surprise to us that Laqualla Hart is already making waves at her school. We are excited to see what else she accomplishes this year and in the rest of her teaching career.

Thanks, Laqualla, for your dedication to your students. Your passion is inspiring!
