Lindy C. Jones left teaching 27 years ago, but her heart never really left the classroom. After nearly three decades, which have included marriage, adoption, and a career in dentistry, Lindy has returned to the classroom. iteach helped get her back where she belongs.
Now that her son is in his senior year, Lindy wanted to give back to the school district that helped raise him. She’s teaching second grade at Arthur McNeil Elementary in McKinney, TX.
Her original batch of students from 27 years ago are now college graduates with their own careers and families. She’s still kept up with some of them. One even won the Showcase Showdown on The Price Is Right; he learned those estimating skills from Ms. Jones.
Lindy tries to use real-world examples in her lessons whenever possible. Recently, she did a fractions lesson using donated pizza boxes. The students made their pizza orders, complete with Italian music playing in the background.
“So much has changed and I am embracing my endeavor more than ever! It’s the best decision I have ever made,” Lindy says about her return to teaching.
Her students whisper that their teacher is a superhero, and we agree. She even overheard a student say, “She will always have our backs, even though we have little backs.”
Congratulations, Lindy! Thanks for always having your students’ backs.
