Below are the requirements for acceptance into the iteach alternative teacher certification program.
Requirements for Program Admission
Bachelor’s Degree
You must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university that is recognized by the West Virginia Department of Education.
Requirement
GPA Requirement: Your undergraduate GPA must be a minimum of 2.50.
Basic Skills Assessment: Pass Praxis Core or meet one of the alternative methods for providing basic skills information. Click Here for latest testing info.
Transcripts
Upload your official transcripts to the Applied #1 box in InstructNet. If you don’t have your transcripts, visit your college or university website and request transcripts from your school’s registrar.
Coursework
Complete introductory course 5000
Fees
Pay your $250 enrollment fee

Testing Requirements
Praxis I (CORE)
The West Virginia Department of Education requires either the Praxis I (CORE) exam or evidence of an approved exemption for program eligibility.
If you have completed one of the following, you are not required to have Praxis I (CORE) passed. The eligible exemptions are:
- Passed Praxis I PPST – Prior to the approval of the Praxis Core, the Praxis PPST was the approved exam for basic skills.
- Master’s Degree – Hold a master’s degree (or higher) from a regionally or nationally accredited college or university.
- SAT combined verbal/critical reading and math score of 1170 or higher prior to 2005.
- ACT score of 26 or higher
Praxis II Subject Exams
iteach West Virginia offers certifications in many subject areas. You must submit at least one Praxis II passing score in order to be eligible for licensure.

Other Requirements
- Correspond using your personal email account
- Access to a personal (not school) computer
- Add iteach.net to your contacts list
- Verification of Work Authorization Status. If not a U.S. citizen, you must provide verification of lawful permanent residence and a copy of your current Green Card at the time of application with at least two years of employment eligibility.
Outside of United States
Graduate Requirements
Graduates from a university outside the United States or its territories will need to provide:
- An original Foreign Credential Review from an approved agency that follows the standards of the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO). You will be required to submit the official evaluation to iteach for admission.
