Below are the requirements for acceptance into the iteach alternate route program in New Jersey. Meet these requirements to get started with the 50-Hour Pre-Professional Experience coursework and gain access to test preparation resources from Passage PreparationTM to help you prepare for your certification exams.
To complete your enrollment in the alternate route program, you will be required to hold a Certificate of Eligibility (CE) from the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE).
Requirements for Program Admission
Bachelor’s Degree
You must hold a bachelor’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited college or university.
Transcripts
Upload your official transcripts to the Applied box in your InstructNET portal. If you don’t have transcripts, visit your college or university website and request transcripts from your school’s registrar.
3.0 GPA
Identify your Certification Endorsement Area

Complete the New Jersey Introductory Course.

Complete Your Enrollment
Obtain your Certificate of Eligibility (CE)
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university
- Cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 out of 4.0 for degrees earned on or after September 1, 2016 on a baccalaureate or higher degree program Minimum of 2.75 for those graduating before September 1, 2016 or with a qualifying Praxis score. Details here.
- Meet the subject matter preparation requirement for your endorsement Generally 30 credits in the subject area; 60 liberal arts credits for elementary; 15 credits for add-on endorsements in middle school subjects). See Certifications and Endorsements for details.
- Pass the required Praxis Subject Test(s) for your endorsement See Testing Requirements for Certification in New Jersey. For World Languages other than French, German and Spanish, see Certifications and Endorsements for testing requirements.
- Evidence of meeting the Physiology and Hygiene requirement (online test available)
- Submit your application on the New Jersey Educator Certification (NJEdCert) System

Middle school add-on endorsements can be combined with any Elementary
or K-12 endorsement, but do not stand alone.

Outside of United States
Graduate Requirements
Graduates from a college or university outside of the United States or its territories will need to provide to iteach an original foreign credential review completed by an international education evaluation service that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services or the Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc.
The credential evaluation submitted to iteach must include the following information:
- The equivalent of studies to a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited four-year college program;
- The semester-hour equivalent of each area of college-level study. Request the two-part evaluation that includes a course-by-course listing;
- The cumulative baccalaureate grade point average.
