Below are the requirements for acceptance into the iteach Mississippi alternate route licensure program.

Requirements for Program Admission

Bachelor’s Degree

You must hold a bachelor’s degree (non-education) from a regionally or nationally accredited college or university.

Transcripts

Upload your official transcripts to the Applied box in your InstructNET portal. If you don’t have transcripts, visit your college or university website and request transcripts from your school’s registrar.

Basic Skills Requirement

You must demonstrate basic skills through ONE of the following: 

  • Score of 21 on the ACT or equivalent SAT score, 
  • Passing score on Praxis Core exam, OR
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a baccalaureate transcript or GPA of 3.0 in the last 60 hours of college coursework

How to Get Certified to

Teach the Subject You Want

You can get licensed in any of the licensure areas that iteach is approved to offer in Mississippi. You will need to pass the Praxis Subject Assessment that is required for your chosen licensure area for admission to the iteach program in Mississippi. 

Find detailed information about the Praxis test requirements for each licensure area on the ETS website. For Elementary Education 4-6, select Alternate Route Program from the drop down menu under Licensure Requirements on the ETS site.

We know testing can be stressful, but we have been there and are here to help you with proven test preparation resources from Passage Preparation. You will receive a voucher for 90 days of access to test preparation resources from Passage Preparation once your application is completed.

Other Requirements
  • Correspond using your personal email account
  • Access to a personal (not school) computer
  • Add iteach.net to your contacts list
  • Verification of Work Authorization Status.

If not a U.S. citizen, you must provide verification of lawful permanent residence and a copy of your current Green Card at the time of application with at least two years of employment eligibility. All candidates will be required to submit documentation of citizenship or lawful presence to the Mississippi Department of Education with their applications for licensure. 

Outside of United States

Graduate Requirements

Graduates from a university outside the United States or its territories will need to provide an original foreign credential review completed by World Education Services (WES) or International Education Evaluations (IEE). The credential evaluation submitted to iteach must include the following information: 

  • Verification that one holds the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree granted by an accredited institution of higher education in the United States, including the month, day, and year that the degree was conferred
  • U.S. equivalency for each credential
  • Course-by-course analysis
  • Cumulative GPA of credit hours
