An add-on endorsement program allows currently certified teachers to add a new endorsement area to their existing Louisiana teaching certificate. For the Mild/Moderate Special Education endorsement, Louisiana requires educators to complete specific special education coursework and pass applicable Praxis exam(s). All candidates must pass the Special Education assessment designated by the Louisiana Department of Education. Depending on your current teaching certificate and the grade band of the Mild/Moderate Special Education endorsement you wish to add, you may also be required to pass additional pedagogy, content, and/or reading assessments before the endorsement can be added to your certificate. Because testing requirements vary by your existing certification area, be sure to review the current Add-On Certification Application packet on the Louisiana Department of Education website to confirm the assessments required for your specific situation.
