Louisiana Alternative Teacher Certification

You may apply at any time. iteachHAWAII does not have any application deadlines.

It is your responsibility to request that your transcripts be sent to iteachLOUISIANA; iteachLOUISIANA does not request transcripts on your behalf. If you already have official transcripts, you may mail them directly to iteachLOUISIANA.

By state rule, you must have a minimum graduating GPA of 2.5 or a GPA of 2.5 in your last 60 hours of college coursework. If you are unsure whether you meet this requirement, you can evaluate your GPA using our GPA calculator tool (Excel file, 39KB).

Graduate courses taken at an accredited college or university may be included in your calculation for your GPA in your last 60 hours of coursework.

If you do not meet the minimum GPA requirement, you will need to take additional undergraduate or graduate coursework in order to improve your GPA in your last 60 hours of coursework

iteachLOUISIANA determines your eligibility for certification in a content area during your application evaluation. Qualifications for content area certification may be demonstrated by:

1. Conferred degree in a specific content area based on an academic major. If your undergraduate or graduate degree directly relates to a content area, this area will be identified for enrollment.
2. If you do not have an academic major in a specific certification area, then iteachLOUISIANA will review transcripts for at least 15 hours in identified content areas of English, math, science, and social studies for Core Subjects, 4-8 Subject Test or EC-12 Special Education.

The total program cost is $4,000 if you choose the monthly payment option. There is an optional deferred plan that costs $4500. With this plan you pay $250 down and you don’t make any other payments until you get hired. This plan doesn’t include the free access to Teaching Channel or access to free test prep.

You can begin the iteachHAWAII program after you pay your enrollment fee for the monthly payment plan. Our optional deferred plan is a total cost of $4500 and requires a $250 down payment. The rest of your fees are deferred until you are hired for a teaching position.

No, iteachTEXAS is not an institution of higher education. Therefore, the program does not qualify for financial aid.

No; teacher hiring decisions are made by school principals and district administrators. Therefore, no teacher certification program, including iteachLOUISIANA, can guarantee you a teaching position.

iteachLOUISIANA does provide necessary documentation that you are eligible for a your Intern/Probationary Certificate; this is an essential part of the application process for uncertified teachers.

In addition, we provide information about the school hiring process and notify candidates about teacher openings to give you the best chance of finding a teaching job. To date, more than 9,000 teachers have obtain teaching jobs while enrolled in the iteach teacher certification program.

You may begin securing an internship as soon as you are accepted into the iteachLOUISIANA program and fulfill the initial requirements of:

• 30 hours of observation
• Completion the Pre-Hired Courses (5100 – 5300)
• Content test passed (including all supplemental test, if needed) in the area of hire

Once you have fulfilled the initial requirements listed above, you will receive a Statement of Eligibility. You provide this form to school districts for verification of eligibility for field experience. Once you obtain a field experience placement, you must complete all of the program requirements by the end of your field experience.

You must complete your instructional coursework within a few months. The whole iteachHAWAII program is designed to be completed within one school year, but you have two full school years to find a teaching position while enrolled in the iteachHAWAII program.
